[Japan 2008] Tokyo: the Harmony of Mind and Heart

My first impression about Tokyo is that the diverse charm the city enlights.

Traditional and modern building blend together everywhere, law and local tradition is upheld consistently by everyone, and even in the highest pride of human logic, the Japanesse are able to respect their inner limitation, the border between human and the Creator.

Tokyo is vast.

and indeed cool, though calm.

The calmity, i think, is created from the politeness and the sympathic way the Japanese have toward guests. We feel being welcomed and respected anywhere in this city, and i believe, in this country.

The coolness is inside. The coolness is though hot and burning.

And Tokyo as the capitol city, as a metropolitan, as a society shares this paradox.

The city bursts, the city calms. On and on, that it spins, and becomes constant.

The city then can offer two extreme for stranger: lost or meditated

Souvenir from Manila : Manila Bay Sunset

During the short stay of attending the 7th Young Economists’ Convention and the First International Conference of Young Economists’ Convention in Manila last week, I spared a day to meet one of Ninit’s (one of the most gorgeous bestfriends I have in AFS Indonesia year 2004) bestfriend, who is a Filipino and lives in Manila, named Cels.

I had such a great day cruising Manila with Cels and her brother Jello and her sister Burn (I hope I don’t misspell the names). Cels is surprisingly very much alike Ninit, her style, her perspectives, her interests. I said to Ninit, “Now I know why you both can get a long so well. You are just like twins separated in two different worlds!! Hahhaha”

One of the places I visit in Manila with this warm Esguerra Family is the Manila Bay. We were quite worried because it had just rained there and the sky was still cloudy. But we still decided to take a trip by a boat so that we could see the Sunset of Manila Bay. Cels stated that Manila Bay Sunset is the best sunset in the world. And it is !!!!!!!!

Altough the sky was gloomy and cloudy, I got the luck that I can still see the sunset. It was perfectly round, and its colour is the most special thing the sunset has. Unlike in Jakarta or other places I had visited, Manila Bay Sunset’s colour is a shade of orange-pink-red-magenta colour. BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!

It sets quite fast, I just tried to record it and breathed the whole scenery.
I didn’t bring my camera (too bad, the battery was broken). But my handphone worked quite good and was able to catch the perfect round shape of it.

Most surprising fact I got after the nice trip is that the family said that the reason of the colour of the sunset is pollution. It is ironic !!!
I said, “OK, it was extremely beautiful, but I think I prefer for more unpolluted beautiful sunset, hehhee”.

However, if you go to Manila, you have to see the sunset !!!!!! then you can embrace more how the beauty of our nature has the right to be respected (one the mean is not to pollute it) and that this bridge of day and night –the sunset- has always been reminding humankind of the limited time we have in our life. Just like the sun, human sets too…. ;P

Jakarta Lately....

Under this strange weather pattern nowadays, Jakarta has been having no rain in the last 5 days. Very contrast to what the city had during the last week of 2007 and the beginning of the new year.
Despite all, Jakarta's citizens happen to get beautiful sceneries during the sunset.
With my mobilephone's camera, here are some catch. (Even with a low resolution, we can still see how beautiful the city can be :) :) :) )

Green Certificate: Preventing Suicide of the Common ?

Do you know that starting next year we, cars owners in Jakarta, have to get a green certificate first in order to extend our STNK ???!!!

Like most of you, I just knew that too. Thanks to our dear fellows in ALSA (Asian Law Students Associates) Local Committee University of Indonesia who iscurrently running their second ALSA CARE (For the committee , Caca and friends: Great Idea!! Great Act!! Congrats !!!!) . As part of the whole event, a free emission test is held today in front of the UI Mosque.

If your car pass the test, which means that your car extracts emission level under the emission quota level, you will get the green certificate: SURAT KETERANGAN SEMENTARA MEMENUHI BAKU MUTU EMISI. This certificate is valued for 6 months, so that we have to test our car regularly each semester.

From the brochures the committee had distributed too, i think you should know this shocking fact abour air quality in Jakarta.
According to data collected by BPLHD (Badan Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup Daerah) DKI Jakarta, in the year 2000 good air category reached 32 % of the year (117 days in a year) but it decreased to only 6,85 % in the year 2003 (25 days in a year !!!).

Doesn’t it mean that we are technically poisoning ourselves ???!!!
